Walter Sommer (1887 – 1985) war in der Kindheit durch Impfschäden sehr krank (Gehirnfieber) und litt in der Folge regelmäßig an Blutarmut.
Er war der radikalste Reformer unter den Vegetariern und entwickelte schon ein Vegan-System, als kaum einer davon etwas verstand.
Sommer propagiert in diesem Buch die vegane Rohkosternährung, was heute, modifiziert unter dem Begriff Low Carb, als neueste Erkenntnis der Ernährungswissenschaft gilt.
Insgesamt bietet das Buch die meisten Informationen für Leser die sich Vegan ernähren wollen, inclusive eines ausführlichen Rezeptteils.
Walter Sommer brachte den Beweis, daß die Menschheit nicht immer neue Studien u. Wissenschaften benötigt, um Antworten auf die Frage der richtigen Ernährung zu erhalten.
Die doch in jedem Menschen vorhandenen natürlichen Sinne und der Verstand reichen vollkommen aus, zu erkennen, was gesund sein kann und was nicht.
Seine Haupterkenntnis jedoch war, daß die Hitzeeinwirkung (also Kochen/Backen/ Braten/Rösten/Grillen)die Nahrung zerstört.
Dieses Buch von 1952/1958 überrascht mit Kenntnissen und Er-Kenntnissen die ihrer Zeit weit voraus sind. Auf 431, dicht beschriebenen, Seiten bietet es eine Fülle an wissenschaftlich recherchierten und gut verständlich aufbereiteten Ernährungsinformationen.
Zum Beispiel erwähnt Sommer bereits, die durch Abholzung und einseitige Bodennutzung bevorstehenden Klimakatastrophen.
